Waterfall - 1/2s hand held IS shot

At this size it isn't too bad, but at full size there is evidence of motion.

But nevertheless, not bad for a cheap kit lens and having to stop down to F25

Canon 450D + 18-55mm IS kit lens, 1/2s, f25, ISO200, 27mm

This one is 1/4s, F22

Taken at the Cascade, Virginia Water. The recent rain means there's a good flow at the moment. Well worth a visit if you are local.

Nice shots Loz, especially being hand held. Might give the spot a try myself.

Excellent choice of shutter speeds to get the water nice and milky. I reckon a bit of tweaking in post processing and they could really pop.

I must buy myself a ND filter so I don't have to resort to anything as drastic as F25!

Does a Circular Polarizer improve these sort of pics too? Something else on my shopping list.

Handholding at 1/2s, that's unheard of! Crazy.

Yes a C-PL would eliminate the glare from the wet rocks and leaves which is no doubt muting the colours. It also has about a 2-stop light loss.

You might wanna get a tripod too

Yes, I have a tripod... but didn't fancy a 2 1/2hr walk around the lake with it.
I must get a sturdier mono-pod. That would have done the trick. Would have helped with the HDR's I did in the other thread. Helped keep the frame in exactly the same place.

However, I was in part just trying to see how well the IS would work.
