Canon 5D & BG-E4

What's it worth then? All boxed [it's the 24-105 kit box but no 24-105], body only with two batteries.

Will be picking up a 1D Mk III this week and can't honestly see when I'll use the 5D again, have a 400D as a backup or failing that a CoolPix S200 P&S.

Soo, honest appraisals please.

Cheapest 5D body new is around the £1200 mark and the the grip is around the £140 mark........2nd hand I'd say about.............no idea!

Personally I'd keep it and sell the 400D

The 400D belongs to the missus, might grab a 40D but then I really don't need a spare. I don't earn a living from this it's simply a hobby so I'm trying to reduce my overall amount of kit. Even selling the MT24 [but thats to replace it with another 580II and some triggers ]

The last two I have seen gone recently on forums were both around £800-850 (both including the grip)

You may get a bit more than that on the evilbay

Yeah but then you get scammers and lose a fortune in fee's etc. Would prefer to sell here to someone who will get the use out of it than some dealer on eBay after a profit and £850 was around what I was looking for

Whilst I'm in the mood, whats an MT-24EX and a Canon 24-70 f/2.8 L worth?

Guess I could bundle the 24-70 with the 5D but that's a lot of $'s ...

I'd say about £800-850 also.

The 24-70 - £500 or thereabouts depending on condition. That and the 5D make a splendid combination but many buyers would want the 24-105 I suspect. No idea about the MT-24 though.

Yeah not sure about the MT-24EX as a single sale. Are you keeping the 180mm macro lens?

24-70 - the last 2 on TP have gone for between 500-550

£550 would be acceptable for the 24-70, less than that and it can sit in the cupboard

Not sure about the 180mm, will probably offload this too as it's simply too long for the bits I need it for. Will probably end up with the MPE and grab a 100mm for the missus which I can use.

I seem to have lost the inspiration in the last 12 months, I need to find a new direction so I'm offloading as much as I can get away with and having a total rethink. The missus is getting into it now so I'll drop one of my L's and grab her a full compliment of lenses [she wants light and cheap] and maybe end up with a load of primes.

I'm thinking the 300 f/2.8, 85 f/1.2, 50 f/1.2 and keep the 17-40 and 70-200.

I'd think long and hard about the 85/1.2L unless you're shooting a lot of portraits or really low-light where AF speed isn't critical. I'd also give the 50/1.2 a swerve - inconsistent focussing at close distance and below f2.8, it's pircey for what it is and too close to the 85mm. Instead I'd look at a 35/1.4 and 85/1.8 combination.

Yeah did think about the 35 but it's a little too short for me. I prefer the range of the 50 but then have heard about it's issues. Thought these were just limited to the 5D though.

As for the 85, is the f/1.8 that much better? My new focus [see what I did there] is portraits and wildlife hence the shortlist. Don't think I'll be buying anything without trying it for a while [rental] first this time. The f/1.8 is a lot cheaper though so could stand that without trialling it I guess.

The 85L is incredible, but it's big, heavy, expensive and slow to focus. A specialist lens. The 50L is a design issue and isn't body specific. The 35L is just marvellous.

I thin what I'll do is grab the 35 f/2, 50 f/1.4 and 85 f/1.8 for now and see how I get on with the focal lengths then convert to the L's at a later date if I fancy them.

I did pretty much this for a week and thats what kind of convinced me that 35mm was just too short most of my stuff. But at £158 I'm willing to have it sat in the cabinet for the odd times I will use it
