out & about this morning...

Just getting to grips with the 30D really so not concentrating much on composition - just trying to get my head around the various settings & how to set up the camera for each shot.

Took some shots of the local cricket yesterday, of about 20, most were out of focus so Im obviously doing something fundamentally wrong! I was holding the camera steady & waiting for the bowler to come into frame.. should I be panning with his movement? I kept getting the merc in the background in focus! The ones below were the best, not great but something to improve on - need to get closer next time.

Anyway, also shot some ducks this morning (with the 30D!), and a fantastic old car which I will be going back to soon as that shot could be quite interesting. Advice/critisism welcome..

Re: out & about this morning...

Cricket ones are good enough captures, but a little dark. Where you shooting at a high frame rate or just iming your shots? Tough though cause of the bright subjects and dark background. Upping the ISO may help here, or increasing the aperture if you're ok with less DOF.
Out of interest, where is the pitch?

Duck ones are nice and sharp, as is the one of the Scimitar(?).

certainly is a scimitar! The pitch is in Saltaire, just outside Bradford. The cricket shots were taken at ISO 100, exposure 1/2000 @ f4.. thanks for the advice!
