Not another lens question ?

Hi all

Just recently bought a D40 and really happy with it so far- new to DSLR's and dont know much!...now i am thinking of maybe buying another lens or 2.

At the moment i am mainly taking photos of landscapes, family, pets and close ups of flowers etc (and possibly wildlife).
Can anyone recommend a good range of lenses (not too expensive) that might suit my needs, i already have the 18-55 kit lens, and was thinking of maybe a macro and zoom lens might cover all ranges that i need.

I also see a lot of people have the 50mm nikon lens, would that be usefull as well?

Any help / suggestions would be great

Rough idea of budget?

Re: Not another lens question ?

good question , upto £300 at the moment, if i can get a good lens that is cheap, then i could put money towards another more expensive lens later on

Re: Not another lens question ?

I reckon the Nikon 55-200mm VR would compliment what you have already and give you a bit extra reach for wildlife etc. Other option to consider is the sigma 70-300 although I'm not sure whether you would be able to autofocus with this lens

Nikon 50 1.8 would be a good budget buy for portraits and I reckon would give good results with flowers etc, the only thing you would have to factor in is the lack of autofocus on this lens with your D40

Landscape wise I'd stick with what you have personally unless you really want to go much wider then the sigma 10-20 and tokina 12-24 are popular choices

Re: Not another lens question ?

Thanks dazza

Was looking at those zoom lenses, or possibly saving up for the nikon 70-300...

On the 50mm , is manually focusing the camera quite easy to pick up?

thanks

The 70-300mm VR is a good buy if you can stretch to it I feel, I've not used the 50mm so difficult to comment on how easy the manual focusing is.
