Potential Terrorist or Paedophile after Discreet Compact Camera.

I bet that thread title raised a few eyebrows but that is exactly the reaction I was after...puts a bitter taste in the mouth but it's how an ever growing percentage of our community is percieved.

Now to the question obviously I'm not one of the people named in the thread title but I'm after a high quality discreet compact camera for urban and street photography (a slowly crippled art).

Your suggetions would be appreciated.

Hope my thread is not deleted as I was trying to make a point but also ask a question!?

If it is deleted proves a point.

ROFL

A G9? There's nothing like RAW post-processing to help save those hurried playground shots.

Re: Potential Terrorist or Paedophile after Discreet Compact Camera.

In my opinion, this is the second best thread title ever (only narrowly beaten by Gordon's recent thread title about 'girls in underwear'

Re: Potential Terrorist or Paedophile after Discreet Compact Camera.

high quality discreet camera - doesn't come more high quality and discreet (providing you remove/hide the red dot on the front) than a Leica (or similar rangefinder)

expect to pay through the nose if you need digital though.... an m8 is about £3000 + lens.... http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/leicam8/
or you could try and track down an old discontinued Epson RD1 (about £1000 if you can find one s/h)

If you fancy shooting film (which for street I would recommend) then for a couple of £000 you can get a very nice Cosina Voigtlander Bessa R2 and lens....

Re: Potential Terrorist or Paedophile after Discreet Compact Camera.

My Shortlist so far...
1.Canon PowerShot G9 -
2.Leica M8 - Would love but just a little to expensive.

Any more to add to these recomendations would be appreciated.

Requirements

Discreet
Digital
up to £500 budget

Looks like the G9's the one for me, thanks Gordon and everyone that gave advice...seems there was only '1' choice really.
