Freshwater portrait

A freshwater tropical fish - I can't remember it's name even though I used to have these!

Cheers Paul - not sure I can think of a decent caption.

Bit of luck Dave - first shot I took of that aquarium then they scattered!

By the way I just sold my last 77mm C-PL on TP forum... to make way for a Lee set .

It's all your fault! with those flipping Skye photos!!! - I hope you feel guilty

Re: Freshwater portrait

Nice shot, the background colours make for a very nice smooth bokeh.

Is this from the same set at the "fish shop" or have you been again?

Cheers sigh... the MP-E can't help but do nice bokeh, it's a curse .

Yep, same shop, same visit.

Couldn't possibly put a freshwater fish in the marine thread though

Re: Freshwater portrait

Nice one Dave.

This one looks like a dwarf cichlid, possibly Apistogramma.
I also used to have a freshwater tropical tank for many years and hope to set one up again someday.

I'll have to get myself down to an aquarium shop and see if I can get some photos. Do you find that the flash spooks the fish?

Mike

Re: Freshwater portrait

Thanks Mike.

I'm hoping to revive my old tank too - need to wait till we move into a bigger house this summer. Plecs are my favourites

The flash didn't seem to spook the ones I was shooting. I wouldn't go flashing discus tanks though - you know how delicate their little tickers are!

Typically a lot of them scatter when they see the lens approach: dark shadow = predator to a lot of them I suspect.
Those which were less nervous/more inquisitive, didn't seem to mind.

Think I've just about made my mind up. But maybe need some advice on my initial choices!

Re: Freshwater portrait

Great shot! Love it.

Looks like it's worth buying a Canon Body just for the MP-E

I'm sure you wouldn't be the first if you did.
