Any Nikon D40/50/70/80 owner have the ML-L3 Remote?

If so. Any good?

The receiving sensor on my (D50) camera is on the front so what happens if you don't want to take a self portrait?

Can you stand behind of the camera and keep the out of shot. Do you have to be side on to get the remote in view of the sensor?

Do you just basically set the camera up for the photo you want, then use the remote? Is it as fast as just pressing the button yourself?

I have the D50 and the ML-L3.

You do need to be pointing the remote at the front of the camera - still handy if you want to make long exposures etc.

If you want to fire it from behind, you could set up a simple reflector to bounce the 'signal' back to the receiver. I've tried it, and it works - but not at great distances.

Set-up is simple enough 3 presses of the timer/remote button sets it up to be fired by remote - it then autofocuses and fires as if you were pressing the button.

I wish you didn't have to set the camera to remote detect. Why can't it just pick it up without having to set anything?

I'd recommend it only because it's cheap, otherwise I'd just use a short self-timer.

Am I right in thinking that you can have it on delay so even if you were stood in front of the camera, you can just shift to the side in a second or so to get out the way

Yes, you can do this as well - although in practice, you don't have to be stood *right* in front to of the camera - you can easily stand out of shot and still fire it.

All sorts really.

I don't have a steady hand though and often get some blurred pics, especially when zooming. Really should use a tripd more though

For how cheap it is (£10). I thought it might be worth while for the odd occasion.
