Easter Weekend at the Beach...

Just wanted to post up a couple of shots taken yesterday from a wander up at the beach. The rather odd weather (pouring with rain one second, and brilliant sunshine the next!) coupled with the early evening light made for some interesting photo opportunities. I struggled a bit with exposure settings given the lighting, but feel like i've come away a little wiser - hopefully i'll have a better idea of what to do next time!

Comments are welcome, all images have had a little PP work in Lightroom - some to compensate for my poor exposure settings, and some to try and enhance the effect of the evening light. I'd appreciate any comments All taken with the Nifty Fifty...

There are a few more up on my Flickr page if anyone is interested As above, any and all comments welcome - composition, technical points, post-processing, anything I can use to help me do a better job next time!

Kelvin.

Same two for me - the boat at the end of the rainbow is great!

Re: Easter Weekend at the Beach...

Hello there

Very nice set

#3 with the rainbow is very good, couple of comments on this one. Crop about half the sea out and straighten the horizon. #5 is also very nice

Cheers Holo

Re: Easter Weekend at the Beach...

Great shot on the rainbow there! Excellent. Would work well with greenpeace if it was the Rainbow Warrior. The "God's Fingers" shot is cool too.

Interestingly quite a few of the others look "soft" i.e. lacking sharpness. Specifically the first one of the post where the post is quite fuzzy. Maybe just a mis-focus. I see it's the kit lens - it looks like you might shortly be on the upgrade path . Sorry!!

Thanks for the comment Tobers... a mis-focus I suspect, all of these shots were taken with the 50mm f1.8, not the kit lens I thought they looked a little soft too - a combination of poor focus and a bad choice of settings on my part (found myself wishing i'd used a smaller aperture to keep more of the shots in focus). In my defence, i'm still getting used to the Nifty Fifty

Thanks everyone else for the comments - it all helps! Holowlegs, will have a go and post the results

K.

Re: Easter Weekend at the Beach...

The rainbow on boat is great - a fine capture.

The others have nice sky colour etc, but don;t leap out at me with their composition. A nice set though.

Thanks for the comment Liquid I'm aware I need to work on composition, all part of the learning curve I suppose Every time I think I see a great shot (composition wise!) I never have the camera on me!

Hello there

Think you may of miunderstood me, it seem you have cropped some of the sky out. Not the best at explaining myslef in type, what I meant was fom the bottom of the picture take out about half of the sea away.

Have added a note to the original picture on flickr

Cheers Holo

Re: Easter Weekend at the Beach...

Some nice shots there. I like the one of the sand 'cliff' as it's quite original and not something that one would normally take a picture of. The rainbow and the boat is a stunner but my personal take on the crop would be to crop the bottom quite harshly taking it right up to the small white spot on the left hand side (and straightening the horizon too) but tha would be my take.

The colours in #1 and #4 look a bit too manipulated to me and therefore look slightly unnatural.

Good effort to go out and shoot prime only

D'oh... You're too quick!!

I exported the wrong image from Lightroom and posted it to Flickr before realising! Now deleted and just uploading the new one...! I commented to the effect that I felt the sea let down the shot, typical of me to add an image that highlights the fact even more...!

Edit: Here you go...

Great capture the rainbow and the boat, a real one in very small odds shot that IMO, well done.
