Only had time for one shot today, after melting my brain on all the reviews and questions from last night. Anyway i went off today and got one so i thought i`d share my first ever pic i took with it.

Nice picture! Have a look HERE for how Ken Rockwell reckons you should set the camera up for optimum results.
It's really easy to follow and I have my D40 set up as he recommends (given my lack of knowledge to the contrary).

Nice photo, Paulie, for DSC_0001.
Ken Rockwell comes with a health warning.  He has some useful stuff on his site, but some is just his opinion (to be fair, he does state this in his "About Me") and may not work for you. He likes his photos very warm and (over)saturated, which may or may not be to your taste.
Have a read of the FAQ on how to embed and link your flickr photos. You'll get more views that way. And post lots more photos

I hadn`t read that/those.
Soon as i get some shots i`ll post, have no fear on that score
