Hey guys,
Just wondering if PCMCIA CF card readers are any good? I.e. is the transfer rate quite quick? I have just got myself a Dell Latitude D430 notebook (the smallest one they do) for when on overseas business trips, which I will regularly be copying photos to. It has a 5in1 card reader built in which covers the Memory Stick from my point and shoot but would just like something for my CF's from the 400d. Being able to ditch my USB card reader will save some space in my bag!
Any advice/recommendations would be much appreciated!

Keep the USB card reader! I have just started to use CF cards and transferring NEF/RAW is painfull using PCMCIA.

Why bother with a card reader - just plug the camera in directly?

My USB card reader recently broke and so I thought I'd be clever and space saving and buy a PCMCIA card reader. It's as good as unusable its that slow.
For the past couple of weeks I've just been plugging in the camera but that is so much more awkward and also a lot slower.

PCMCIA only has a bus speed of 20MB/Sec by comparison USB 2 has a bus speed of 480MB/Sec.
So yeah, PCMCIA is gonna be reeeaaaaaalllllll slow in comparison!

Thanks guys, that settles that then!!
Was just hoping to save some space in my carry on luggage as it has laptop, body + all my lenses, point and shoot, Ipods, PSP + games/films, noise cancelling headphones, external HDD etc etc not to mention all the leads and chargers! It weighs an absolute tonne! Thinking about it though, a USB card reader weighs next to nothing!
