Reservoir logs
Much All of my stuff for the last couple of weeks has been dull, flat and fairly lifeless.
So armed with a set of filters I set off today to blow the cobwebs away.
The 1st is with blue grad:
and the 2nd one is with a tobacco grad:
No HDR or multiple exposures, just upped the saturation altered the WB and sharpened.
Whatya reckon?

Re: Reservoir logs
I like the tobacco grad but I think it's a bit strong. Lighter would be better I think. Good job getting the land and sky in one exposure.

Re: Reservoir logs
Hi ya
Tobacco grad one for me, doesn't look as blown out as the blue one, and has added great colour to the sky. Its a pity we can't see a larger view of it.
Filters is what I got to have a look at next, what type do you use?
Cheers Holo

Re: Reservoir logs
Thanks Holo, I've got a set of Cokin filters at the mo, but I'm undecided as the palaver of rigging them up is a distraction. Also the 10-20 doesnt really like the holder at under 14mm, with these I actually held the filter by hand against the lens.

I'm sure you can get a "wide-angle" cokin filter holder. I've seen them on e-bay a few times. They have a shorter front end, only allowing 1 filter to be used at at time giving you a lot greater field of view. They quote something like a 20% increase.
There is one here

Thanks Android I already have one, but it still vignetts @10mm.
The cokins are usefull at times but the faff on to screw on adapters, fix the holder on and scratting around for the right filter just isn't me
Just as well the stuff I do doesn't move.

Re: Reservoir logs
Right then - the finished article:
cropped and a bit unsaturated to lower the tint:
Oh and a bit bigger!

Re: Reservoir logs
Works great - nice crop.
I'd try blending in some of a natural (or the blue grad) shot on the log that extends up into the tobaco section.

Thanks Rob,
Ooh er - just getting used to applying a layer to add overlay and high pass filter! How do "I blend" in Elements 4.

Re: Reservoir logs
Dont know, know in PS.
Add a layer with the alt pic, add a mask, paint the area you want, change opacity.
