Photography AS Unit 2 Project 3

Hi,

Just thought that I would give you an update on my photography course. Unit 1 was finished in November. This consisted of my colour project which was about us learning the basic skills. Along with project 2 which was film based again, but this time in black & white, so we developed the film ourselves and made the prints in the darkroom. Overall for this project I got a B. I know where I made my mistakes and it came from my sketchbook, as I find this to be the hardest part.

Unit 2 Project 3 finished today. This time it was digital manipulation. I'm not a massive fan of heavy manipulation so I chose to create a panoramam. It meant having to stich it together using Photoshop and not using automated programs such as PtGui. My sketchbook was much better this time, and I will find out what grade I achieved next Thursday.

To get the panorama printed I used www.panoprint.co.uk. They were really good, I actually went to where they print them, and the person there takes a lot of care over getting the colour exactly right.

Below is the panorama that I submitted, it isn't exactly the one i submitted as after this file I changed the saturation a little and altered the curves. It was printed at 20"x9" and mounted on an A1 black board. I'm not completely with it as I know that some of the join lines are still visible. But I don't think it's a bad effort for my first time.

Comments and critique are most welcome.

You are right, you really can see the join lines which is unfortuante. It also looks like there was an issue lining up the cloud formation mid way through the image. I hope you get on ok with it and this section of the course

One of my joiners

Re: Photography AS Unit 2 Project 3

Theres a few things that strike me about the image:

1) Obviously the joins you've already mentioned, but I believe these could easily be fixed with a bit of cloning, blurring and smudging as there isnt much detail in the clouds.

2) It all seems a little flat, but I guess you just dont have time to wait for good weather and nice blue skies!

3) Id suggest cropping out the top of a lamppost to the left of the image

4) Theres a tiny bit of overlap near the bottom left - just a quick crop to get rid of the edge should fix it.
