cf memory card problems ?

i own a canon eos 300d dslr,i have currently a kingston 1gb cf card in the camera,i get the impression that the card is slow in writing from camera to card,as the cp led on the camera flashes for a while after taking photos on the largest image(6mp),is this normal?, are there such a thing as fast write cards out there?

Re: cf memory card problems ?

Not all cards are made the same

For a comparison of how they do against each each other check out the following

Clicky Thing

As a quick test, the card into a card reader and transfer some files across, large files and see what write speed you are getting. I also believe that there is software available that can test the speed of your card.

Re: cf memory card problems ?

I have two 50x Kingston 1gb CF cards which work perfectly in my 30D, no problems with speed of writing or anything in the camera. They won't read, however, in my PCs internal cardreader, even though my Sandisk and Fuji cards work no problem. I either have to down-load direct from the camera or use a separate external reader. Strange.

Re: cf memory card problems ?

The Sandisk Extreme's have a fast read and write speed, up to 40mb/s with the Extreme 4.

Re: cf memory card problems ?

Unless you've got an exceptionally old & slow CF card, I wouldn't bother. The 300D writes to the card at a slower speed than later cameras and isn't capable of taking advantage of faster cards. You may still get a speed benefit writing from card to computer (assuming you use a suitable card reader) but in camera, it'll make practically no difference.
