Addicted to Dragonflys..

Here are some dragonflys taken today during a walk. I find them absoutley fascinating to watch and photograph. As always comments are more than welcome. All shot handheld with the tamron 90mm.

Nice photos, yes I thinks dragonflies are fascinating, one of the few insects that still have the prehistoric trait of having four wings, they make a frightening sound as they buzz past

All great shots but how do you get so close to them at 90mm? I can't get near enough with a 300mm without the buggers flying off!

Do you dope them or something?

Thank you..no doping involved. Just apprach them very slowly and be aware of your shadow as if you block the sun over them they will fly off. You get some that are absoutly impossible to get close to but i got to within 4inches of some of these. Once you get that close, providing you dont make any sudden movements they are usually pretty settled.

Damselflies and Demoiselles are smaller than Dragonflies, but the easiest way to tell them apart is that when a Dragonfly is resting, it holds it's wings spread out. Damselflies and Demoiselles hold their wings folded along their bodies when resting.
