Nice capture Rich, non DSLRs take very good macros due to the deeper DOF with the smaller sensor, at the expense of a noisier image. (Not much noise visible in this, though).
I would personally have cropped more off the left to make the subject less central, improving the composition, but thats a minor detail.

Yes it was alive, I was using my FZ7 in tele macro mode, I was about 3ft away from it.
