grad me filter ?

going to the lake district for a couple of days next week and I'm wondering if I should grab a grad nd filter? How do they attach - can you get screw-in ones? If it needs bulky filter mounts etc I think I'll not bother (with the wife so I don't want to take the Mick)

Also, how do you us an nd with eg a polariser?

Sorry I opnly have used the cokin stuff.

That requires a mounting plate screwed into the lens then a filter holder.

The CPL goes first with the ability to rotate it in the holder, then a rectangular ND grad goes in which you can rotate with the holder (so adjust both to the right positions, and also adjust the position of the grad across the frame.

Works well but I dont see how a simple screw in ND grad would work as well, you'd have a fixed horizon/position for the grad.

If you want ease of use then go Cokin or similiar, you can change filters in a snap and mount more than one. Will save time on shots and less chance of the wife gettign bored.

The filter systems also work accross different size lenses with cheap adaptor rings, screw in type only work on the specified size.

Upto you bud but I find the Cokin really quick and easy to use, I normally leave the adaptor rings mounted and can swap the whole rig to another lense in seconds
