Thanks: Gave 27, Got 5 | Memory card recommendation for a TZ3
Hi there
I have just ordered a Panasonic TZ3 and would appreciate a little guidance on memory cards.
I am confused between SD and SDHC. Which one would work best?
I am going to Venice for 5 days in August and will obviously be taking loads of pictures. I need a reliable card with plenty of capacity to last me those 5 days.
Can anyone recommend a card to me?

Can anyone recommend a card to me? | I have the SanDisk Extreme III 2GB from Play and its very quick indeed. As soon as I take a pic its ready to take the next

Is 2GB enough?

2GB on the top setting at 4:3 ratio will hold 562 and in 16:9 ratio it holds 638. For me that's more than enough.

Only you can answer that really How many pics are you likely to take?
Play sell their own branded 4GB SDHC card for the same price as the SanDisk ones. Only downside is that you'll need to transfer the pics using the USB cable from the camera. This is likely to be quite slow compared to putting an SD card into a card reader.

Thanks Gazza
That card appears highly recommended by a number of sources.
mymemory.co.uk are doing it for £15.99 (compared to Jessops at £49.99!!!!).
Is it worth getting 2 for safety purposes?
Or, maybe would a 4GB SDHC do the trick? Will it be as reliable?
I don't mind about USB connectivity or a card reader. I have Vista on my laptop which, due to the much-publicised driver problems, refuses to accept any of my card readers!
That's the real question: 2 x 2GB SD or 1 x 4GB SDHC

That's the real question: 2 x 2GB SD or 1 x 4GB SDHC | The Extreme cards have won several awards. I did a bit of research before buying.
Also don't forget the SDHC cards are in a series of speed ratings. http://www.sandisk.com/sdhc/sdhc.pdf
Its a personal choice really I think. I just decided to go down the SD route with the Extreme III and its bloody quick. I don't think you will be disappointed either way.

Given that I have had recent trouble with a memory card in terms of reliability, I would much rather focus on quality rather than capacity. Speed is not overly important.
I suppose it would make sense if I bought two of the Sandisk Extremes that you mention.

I suppose it would make sense if I bought two of the Sandisk Extremes that you mention. | It might be just me but I always tend to buy branded things with good solid reviews from several sites/mags. Never been one for buying very cheap non-branded things. But again that's just my way of thinking
I can only go off my own experience with the TZ3 and Extreme III SD card. I would be hard pushed to take 562 pictures in one day. Last night when I went out with the camera I took 148, but many of them were deleted once on the PC, as I was messing with various settings.

I agree with you.
I think it makes sense to get two 2GB cards. I'll be away for 6 days with no ability to back up data so I think that's probably my safest route.

Unless you will be doing over 100 images a day I would not worry about the 2 cards. One will cover your needs.

Thanks for your advice all.
I've decided to buy two 2GB Sandisk Extremes. They're only £15.99 each so better to be safe than sorry!
Cheers

Play.com is a little cheaper than mymemory.co.uk as postage is included.
