Playing clips through Windows

I have recently taken delivery of the new Canon TX1.

When I download the pictures and video clips onto "my pictures" on Windows XP, everything is fine.

When I double cick on a clip to play it though, Windows struggles to play it ie the sound is continuous but the picture stops and then jumps.

When I play it through Quicktime, it plays ok no probs.

My question is, how do I get my clips onto disc? I have tried by clicking the "burn to cd" on the windows, which it does but the playback is as jerky as when I play it via the Windows media.

I am not wanting to edit or complicate anything at all, just pop a few clips onto a disc now and then.

Can anyone help?

You might want to try the video forums as the TX1 is a bit of a strange beast in that it doesn't seem to have made up its mind what it wants to be

Anyway: what video format are the clips in? I think its an M-Jpeg in an avi file : Sounds to me like windows media player simply has a codec problem with that: ( that is: WMP does not have the nessesary codec to decode the format for playback appropriately

VLC and GOM are universal players which will play pretty much anything..

While installing them on your PC may put codecs usable by WMP on your system, you can simply play the clips in them directly by right clicking and using ..play with.. rather than force the clip to play via WMP

Regarding burning a disc... Nero, Roxio ect amongst others are third party Cd/DVD burning programs which give you more flexibility than Windows own built-in burning plug in ans are well worth getting

The camera is indeed a hybrid and does both jobs suprisingly well and is the size of a large mobile phone!

I bought it as I was never arsed to carry my vidio camera in it's handbag sized case and then download loads of crap onto my computer.

I want a simple life!

Its achilles heel ( if that) is that the video format it records in is not meant to be edited, easily turned into DVD and will not play in many a media player ( as youve seen)
Canon make very good separate Camcorders and Cameras but Im hoping in making this Hybrid they haven't made the Camera aspect cut down as is so clearly the case with the video despite its ( Im sure) good playback on a PC.

Try playing the clips with Real Player. Most people already have this on their system to play back web embedded content. It's pretty much universal these days (in fact, I tend to use it as my default now). Has worked in the past when I have had a codecs issue with WMP. You can also adjust the settings in WMP to give better performance. There is lots about this on the Microsoft WMP info pages. For starters, try here ...
