Damselfly Kama Sutra

First clasp your partner around the neck with your abdominal claspers.

Then have her bring her abdomen around to meet your working parts. This is called the Hula Hoop position.

Re: Damselfly Kama Sutra

I took a few shots of Damselfly yesterday.

Very beautiful insects.

So much detail in their wings. Post later on.

I like the 2nd one best- Hula Hoop position.

Interesting position...

Is it the female or male that has to kill her back to please their partner?

Re: Damselfly Kama Sutra

Fantastic shots Mike
I checked out the original on flickr and the detail is excellent.
I see you used a 90m lens, which one was it please.

Re: Damselfly Kama Sutra

Thanks Sweetgirl and Steve.

The male is the more colourful blue one. No changes there then.

The lens was a Tamron 90mm Macro

Re: Damselfly Kama Sutra

Thanks Holo, I was about 2-3ft away in the first one, about 6-8in in the second. The bugs have to be fairly cooperative at this focal length. The really serious bug shooters usually use 150mm + lenses, but this is out of my price range. You can also increase working distance with diopters and/or teleconverters, and increase magnification and reduce working distance with tubes.
If you do decide to get this lens, you won't be sorry. The AF is as noisy and slow as they say, but for bugs you usually use MF. The sharpness is a real eye opener, and it is good VFM as far as macro lenses go IMO. I paid £200 for mine off Onestop Digital

Re: Damselfly Kama Sutra

No. 2 for me, shame you clipped the wing, but I know how damn tricky this macro lark is, still a cracking shot

Re: Damselfly Kama Sutra

Thanks Gizmo.
Sod's law, I got some with the whole wing in frame, but the focus wasn't as sharp.

Both are excellent photographs Mike.

Their bodies make the shape of a heart (Ish!). Ah, true love.

Cheers.
