Film Grain or not Film Grain?

Took this shot whilst out visiting this weekend....was drawn towards this old clock against a very plain (magnolia??) background.

Sharpened a little, added some contrast, and also (perhaps controversially) added some 'Film Grain' to give it an oldy-worldy type feel...can't decide if this works or not...I thought the original jpeg seemed a little dull...

All comments welcome Composition is something I'm trying to concentrate on at the moment...

EXIF:
Canon EOS 400d
Exposure: 1/200
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 55mm
ISO Speed: 100

Re: Film Grain or not Film Grain?

I like it mate, but I'd have to see the original (pre grain effect) to compare. Composition is spot on BTW

Re: Film Grain or not Film Grain?

Not bad - why not shoot a D200 at 1600 ISO? - you get that effect for free

Re: Film Grain or not Film Grain?

Looks like a great candidate for B&W conversion actually. The grain will make it look v.cool.

Re: Film Grain or not Film Grain?

I like a bit of grain.

Makes me laugh, I bought my Canon gear because it's cleaner than Nikon... and then I add the noise to a few of my best shots anyway

Re: Film Grain or not Film Grain?

Thanks for all your comments guys - haven't taken many shots with my new toy yet, but this is by far the one I'm most proud of (better than my 'Outside Light' effort from last week, anyway). Planning on venturing outside this weekend, so will hopefully have some decent efforts to post up.
