I've been published !!!

Every day I drive past a bus shelter that got blown over in the gales in January, it is getting on my nerves that it is still lying on the ground getting ruined.

Decided to try my arm and send a couple of pictures off to our local paper, have already sent a few for their competitions and the editor has asked if I could do a few local cricket matches when available.

Sent a few piccies of last week and hey presto - even got a credit under the piccie, am pretty chuffed at the moment !

Anyway after that success here are a few taken over the last few days, was at The Barbican last week filming a concert, have a friend with a film company and I do occaisional events as a cameraman, these are outside the hall though. Tried to do a couple of black and whites for a change, have also shown the original for comparison

2

3

4

5 - No colour version of this, preferred the B + W

Couple from the garden, first a bit of an aponogeten in the pond but have cropped it thus because of an interesting bug

6

Finally a shot of one of our ferns, I play with DOF so much that I often forget to wack the aperture up to get good focussing over the whole target - a 1.8 lens is OK as long as you are not too close to the subject.

7

Hope you like.

Bill

Re: I've been published !!!

Congratulations on getting published mate, must be a big thrill
I can see how you chose your username now

Love your shots. Pictures 3 & 4 are excellent compositions. The b&w looks like a still from an old sci-fi film whereas the colour version looks extremely modern and present day. A good example of how converting to b&w can change your thoughts on an image.

Re: I've been published !!!

Well done you!

I like the colour building images myself. They seem to add more to the scene compared to the B+_W ones on this occassion I think. Monitor and plasma one especially

Re: I've been published !!!

Lovely photos Biscuit (I can see where the name comes from now I see the photo credit )
I also prefer the colour Barbican shots over the b&w. No4 is particularly striking.
Great work.

Re: I've been published !!!

Congrats Bill, Youve posted the image of a newspaper with an image

All great #2, 4 and 7 are my faves... Nos 1 & 2 could, ( I think) could use a little cropping.. or clone that little bike ( wheel chair) out

Also I think the sharpening on No 3. 4 and 7 could be a tad less and still show the detail you've taken the pains to capture

I think too that your little bevel/white framing work well : nice without distracting from the images

Well done

Re: I've been published !!!

Thanks to all for the above comments, Stebbo2 - what do you drive, I will try not to crash into you

Fern shot ( and pond plant) was taken with my 50mm f1.8 plus the macro filter thing i got for £4.99.

Have been to Eastbourne today, last time we went there just happened to be an airshow on ! This time there was a exhibition of old cars - will post on a seperate thread.

Re: I've been published !!!

I drive a light blue Mondeo diesel, keep your eyes peeled

I don't suppose it was you taking pics last Sunday opposite Gainsboroughs House? I notice that person had a Nikon of some description, had it set up on a tripod, and was waiting patiently for the traffic to clear.
