Long Exposure at Night

Hi guys,

Just wanted your proffesional opnions on these two and how to possibly improved. Tried me first long exposures with my £10 tripod from 7day shop...

I quite like them but they just don't feel very creative Maybe I should of setup in the middle of the road...perhaps a bit dangerous at 11 at night though

Re: Long Exposure at Night

I like #1 - the blue hues are excellent. The bollard is kinda distracting though.

#2 is not as good - I think that the colours dont do it any favours.

I'd try finding a busier road so you get more light trails. Possibly get up a bit higher as well so you are looking down on the traffic. Maybe go for a diagonal angle of the light trails across the picture e.g. for the 1st one, be standing closer to the road.

Re: Long Exposure at Night

Just looked at #2 again. The background detail of the houses is the difference between that and #1, which is why #1 looks better. Try some contrast tweaking on #2 and see what you get.

Re: Long Exposure at Night

I think they are great , personally.

You'll get some good advice here but I think you are rather more than halfway there.

A bit of trial and error building on what you are already doing is the way forward

Just avoid putting your self in harms way .. . a reflective jacket would be a good investment if you want to keep doing more of this

Re: Long Exposure at Night

Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated.

Tobers, see what you mean. On #2 it was two shots layered together, so I could get the top two red lights from a different shot in.

Reflective jacket might be a good idea There's a raised pavement in the middle of the road for crossing, shots would probably look better there.

Re: Long Exposure at Night

I really like the 1st one there mate, but as someone else has mentioned, I would have been tempted to darken that ballard so it wasn't quite so prominent ...........
