30D First Outing Pics

Took my Canon 30d out yesterday for its first "field trip". We took the kids to Port Lympne wildlife park in Kent so fitted the 70-300 IS!

This was my first attempt with a "proper camera" for many many years and the excersise was to get used to the handling and performance rather than be bogged down with settings!

Here are a few examples. My main problem here was the cages were quite a small mesh and I had plenty of great shots ruined by this (my local zoo uses glass enclosures so it was new to me!). Even though I had focused through and it appeared through the viewfinder to be a clear shot, I was brought up short with a lot of blurred mesh!! Obviously something I need to learn more about and practise getting the angle better.

Here you can see the blurry edges caused by the fence!

Nice shots and nice and sharp too. I own a 10D which I love and thought was a brilliant camera but than just before Christmas I also bought a 30D and WOW what a difference. The 10D just sits in the bag looking lost and forgotten as the 30D is just such a lovely camera to use.

You will love the 30D.. more and more as you get to "know it" .
The ease with which you can access WB, ISO, AV comp, metering and drive mode , shutter speed and aperture, as well as speed of operation is nothing short of amazing. Shutter lag simply doesnt exist . Auto focus with the USM lenses is very fast and accurate and the 5fps is always a joy to have even if you dont use it often. Battery life is good too
You will get some duff shots but that will invariably be down to you.

As time goes on the vast majority should be sharply focused and well exposed, the subject and framing will then then be ..once again down to you
