Question Looking for a compact digital camera / Having an uncoordinated Mother!

Hi Everyone,

My Mother made a brilliant job of "potting" my brand new Sony Cybershot 7.2 in our dog's water bowl. Fantastic. You can imagine my delight. To add salt to the wound, my baby son has recently arrived and I really really need to capture these precious moments.

So I'm after a replacement. I have been recommended the Canon Ixus range, which look pretty good, but I haven't got a clue what I should really be looking for to decide on the model.

Any help gratefully accepted!!

Richard

I have a Fuji F30, and cannot recommend it enough! Prices are good now too (I paid £250 when it came out ), since a newer model came out.

You won't go wrong with the Ixus.
Also check out this site for reviews and prices.

Don't fall into the trap of getting as many pixels as possible, and stick to known brands.

Also try and give yourself a shortlist of requirements:
rechargable batteries
viewfinder
memory
anti shake
size

etc

good luck.

Re: Looking for a compact digital camera / Having an uncoordinated Mother!

I am in no way knowledgable on photography or cameras, but I too have v. young kids and found that I kept missing the "precious moments" because the kids don't always ever hold the pose, and shutter lag was causing me to get the pic just too late.

So I'll steer clear of recommending any cameras as my knowledge is limited, but from practical experience I'd advise you get one that has a low overall shutter lag (especially for when they start to move!)

Maybe some of the more informed can give you pointers....

(I went for a Sony DSC-S600 as I wanted a basic point and shoot and it's fine as long as the batteries are fully charged)

Edit: This table helped me with my decision: http://www.cameras.co.uk/html/shutte...omparisons.cfm

Yep go for the F30! Won plenty of awards, but if you are on a tighter budget, go for the little brother F20.
