Hi all, dont know much about cameras but willing to spend upto £500 on a goodun, I hear people say high defination pictures,so what sort of digital camera would i get for the money that shoots these sorts of pictures and where do i get pictures of that quality developed,also I dont want 1 that requires a degree to use..

Naturallythe cheaper i spend the better,it will be for special occassions mainly,and i would like to shoot some longer range stuff...and no i aint a peepin tom

HD tends to relate to TVs rather than still cameras... those cameras that do mention it are generally cheapo's trying to sound good.

If you want something simple to use with a long zoom (12x) you can do a lot worse than the Panasonic FZ50 that you can pickup for a little over £300 which on your budget will give plenty for a memory card and case.

Your budget would normally point to dSLRs but these require much more practice to get anything near the most out of them and really are aimed at those that want a hobby rather than just the occasional snap.

Hi def seems a strange tag for a digital camera. A hi-def image would be 1920 × 1080 resolution which wouldnt be very much at all in digital camera terms with a 6mp camera having a resolution of 3008x2008

Thanks guys, that helps a lot will look at your recommended 1, also a photographer friend can get me a £500 cannon 1 for £350 through his contacts, are cannon a good reliable name for cameras,I will get the model detail and post it later...

Canon are a very good brand in the dSLR market but in my opinion they arent better than most the other brands in the point and shoot market and they do not do the point and shoot/ dSLR cross over cameras like the panasonic.

The most expensive canon non-dSLR camera can be bought online for under £300... the only cameras by canon that go over this are the dSLR (if you dont know what this is then they are like the old fashioned cameras where you had to change the lenses). Whilst theses are the best cameras about however as per my previous post they take a lot of practice to get the most out of and after buying the camera you reallistically do have to buy at least one more lens if not more

What about the Canon S3IS and G7? Both are generally well regarded although some tests are pointing to the G7 having more noise than typical.

I'm selling my Canon S2 in the trading forum, great camera 12X zoom, IS, 5MP etc etc still under warranty until July 2008

I'm including memory card and have a lowepro bag as well which fits it perfect for sale as well
