Do not really know that much about photography just starting out and learning. what do you think about this picture i took.

Like the composition but I'm not sure if it's the JPEG compression or the camera but the image is noisy and the yellow seems oversaturated, possibly slightly overexposed. The bird also seems a little out of focus.

Great first effort and I like the way you've kept the background out of focus. What settings did you use?

It looks to have been shot with 2.2x digital zoom which could explain the granularity. I would suggest, as the first thing I do on P&S's, disable the digital zoom and stick with plain optical. If you can't get close enough then zoom with your feet.

Very nice shot in it's compostion and great you were there at the right time, it has great potential

Have you done any processing in PhotoShop and the like?

Thank you everyone for your comments. everyone has to start off somewhere. i used a canon s3 (astaroth how did you know that?) i just used the auto settings.

Get this by right clicking the image and selecting properties, should be under there

If you look at the advanced properties of a photo file (ie right click the file, select properties, hit the summary tab and then advanced at the bottom) you get all sorts of information such as if the flash fired, what camera was used, what mode it was in etc.... the data is called exif and whilst there are special readers you can get it is full available in windows.
