Tripod advice

Hi ya

Was going to get one in the end so might as well ask. Looking for a tripod, nothing too expensive and light weight got to be as cheap as chips

Have a 400d with kit lenses at the moment.

Was looking at this

Have seen this in real life and it is very light.

Cheers for any advice.

Holo

Re: Tripod advice

I don't have the one that you have, but I have the Manfrotto 725B tripod which has a ball head. Love the tripod. It's really light and can hold my canon 350d with sigma 17-70/canon 85 with no problems. If it's anything like that, should be able to cope with your 400d with kit lens with ease.

Re: Tripod advice

Hi - Manfrotto make great tripods - for a camera & kit lens the one you linked is decent enough although the fact that it has FOUR section legs would annoy the hell out of me - can you not go somewhere to try some tripods out? Then check out 3Bay (got my first £60 tripod there for a tenner!)
I was once told to buy a good tripod once and that does not mean cheap as chips unfortunately - there is always a compromise between size weight & price (esp if you go for carbon fibre to keep the weight down)
Most people who want to use a tripod with their bigger zoom lenses will go for a set of tripod legs & a separate "head" (usually a ballhead for size & usability) & spend between £100-£200 (I've seen the heads only for £500 )
Just my opinion of course - all depends on what you want out of the thing really ... Paul

Re: Tripod advice

I would second the fact that a tripod is effectively for life (there isnt really much on them that can malfunction) and so you probably should get the best you can afford and then you are set.

If you want to just play with a tripod then the 7 day shop often have budget ones available for £10 or less which would be fine for just the kit lens and in the future if you were to buy a better one then the cheapo could be used for mounting a flash or such

Re: Tripod advice

looks like a good tripod, tempted myself.
I have others, nice sturdy ( read heavy) tripods that I keep in the boot of the car, just in case, but being light, it lends itself to being carried around and actually being used.
Light tripods are great if you are travelling abroad too, especially with baggage weight restrictions.

Try carrying around a 3 kilo tripod all day, and you'll soon wish you had bought this one.

Re: Tripod advice

Hi all

Got the tripod today. Had a look at about 6 or 7 off them. Ended up going with the Manfrotto 718B. It was the one I felt most comfortable with. Some were too lite for my liking and others just to big and heavy.

Tried it out tonight and really happy with it.

Cheers Holo
