I've sold my first picture too!

Blimey - at this rate I'll have to give up work. I've been whooping about the house in a state of high excitement this morning and Mrs Tobers & the kids think I'm off my trolley.

I put 4 photos on Fotolia a week ago following other similar success stories on this site (well, 2 success stories to be precise), and someone has bought one.

It's this one: http://www.fotolia.co.uk/id/2180188

That's me £1.14 better off.

I'm staggered and very amazed, so have put another 3 up there to see what happens

Me neither - Unfortunatley my 3rd old son loves going on 'night time walks' with his torch. His prefered route takes us straight through the village churchyard... He has no idea about death and has never seen a horror movie. To him it's just a nice place to walk, with some interesting things to shine his torch on and a huge old building.

Re: I've sold my first picture too!

well done matey

who sets the price then? It seems very cheap for some good shots. Can a magazine for example buy a shot for a quid and then publish it?.That would be gutting?.

I have no idea how the site works hence the Q's.

well done though must be a nice feeling..

Yeah how do they set a price? Does it cost you anything?

Re: I've sold my first picture too!

Woohoo! Another one sold, this time my shot of Madrid Airport departures:

http://www.fotolia.co.uk/id/2293759

The price is a fixed price for all photos as far as I can tell. A "credit" is worth 57p. A large photo goes for 2 credits.

It costs me nothing to sell them. You sign up, upload and off you go. Blurb is here: http://www.fotolia.co.uk/sell_stock_images/

You can offer a single exclusive license for £100-£300 or so I think, but you only sell the pic once and then have to remove it.

It's just a bit of a laugh for me, but now I will upload any photos which I think are good enough and unique enough to go up there. It is useful to do a search of keywords for the image you are thinking of uploading and see what is already there (and nick the keywords of the most popular ones!).

Also, look at the most popular photos of the week/month and you'll get an idea of what is selling, how many they sell etc.

Re: I've sold my first picture too!

I submitted 5 images last week and 2 of them were selected for the database, they do seem to be quite fussy as to what images they allow. Not sold any yet but it's early days

Well done Tobers, must be a great feeling when someone purchases an image

And thanks for the tips

Re: I've sold my first picture too!

Oops - actually you can set your own prices by setting the number of credits you want to sell an image for.

Blimey, another sale for my Madrid Airport shot, this time in XL size (3 credits)!

I'll be giving up the day job shortly.
