What do to with 35mm Film kit?

I've finally gone all digital and I'm wondering what to do with some of my 35mm SLR kit.

Any advise on what I should do with it?

It's all still in working order and although both cameras have been well used, they are in good condition. Especially the Canon 1000f.

One of the lenses is showing a little wear around the zoom grip but the optics are still in fine order.

Do you do any black and white stuff? Digital still can't get anywhere near it. Second hand values are pretty poor now. Assuming you've gone with Canon for your digital, you can still use the same lenses.

Re: What do to with 35mm Film kit?

I'd suggest advertising it in a local paper, or perhaps Ebay (set a sensible starting bid and you won't be disappointed-check what similar items have sold for recently). Don't take it into a 2nd hand camera shop-they'll give you around a third of what they expect to sell it for!
However, it could be worth hanging on to it until you are absolutely certain that you won't be returning to film-there could be occasions when you want the old kit!

I was pleasantly surprised when I sold my Canon EOS SLR kit recently on eBay. Got very little for the camera body, but more than expected for the lenses and flash.

regards

Re: What do to with 35mm Film kit?

i would agree with barongreenback, you could use it for B&W shot's i recently got a canon slr camera from a mate who asked me to sell it on ebay for him, but i decided to buy it myself and give him the cash, as they where only selling for about 20 quid anyway, i will get to use it one day for some B&W shots, but i just thought it would be worth keeping it just for the hell of it really.

Re: What do to with 35mm Film kit?

With thanks to Barongreenback and beachy, I have to admit that I dont shoot blank and white anymore (shame), the closest I get to B&W is shooting in IR which I now do digitally.

Barongreenback, don't get upset, but I went Nikon rather than Canon due to the fact that I got/get loan on Nikon kit to backup my own items on some shoots. I still like the Canon SLR but I'm not using it and I'd like it to go to someone who would use it rather than it gather dust in a box in cupboard.

Re: What do to with 35mm Film kit?

I've sold some of my 35mm kit on Ebay and I did get a good price for them but you do need to be careful if you do that best advice I can give is Sell the stuff people are looking for. I know this sounds obvious but. I had a couple of bodies. I sold the A1 and kept the AV1 just incase I ever decided to use film again. The A1s command a much better price than the AV1 which are practically given away. I also bundled some lenses with it to make up a kit as these seem to go down better that selling them on their own.

Use a 10 day auction rather than a 7 day one and set it up to finish at a time when people are likely to be about as you do get a lot of last minute bids. I find Sunday teatime is good after people are back from the pub but before anything good is on the telly. Check that there is no football match or soap opera on at your finish time. And put up some good photos of your gear show it from different angles.

good luck

Nikon?! Blasphemy!!! I chose Canon for the same reason - I can borrow lenses from a family member, which saves me a fortune.

I picked up a EOS 300 for £40 with a lens and I'm having great fun taking B&W photos and doing my own processing. I'm sure there is a market for your equipment, especially the lenses (even more so if you've spent the big bucks on L series lenses).

Re: What do to with 35mm Film kit?

You ought to fond lens adapeter rings on eBay which will allow you to use your Canon lenses on your Nikon body. However, this will be as per your SLR . . full manual mode only. You'll have to set the Nikon dial to 'M' mode. So don't go chucking out your lenses just yet!
