Cheapest nifty fifty - and will I use it

I've just started playing with my new 28mm sigma F1.8 lens and am liking the experience so far - but until I got it off ebay I was looking at getting the Canon 50mm 1.8 for as cheap as possible - where are people getting them from so cheap (50 quid has been mentioned, but I can't seem to do better than about 70 or so), and, of course, do I really need one? Is there going to be a time when I can't just move the difference between 28 and 50, and just changing to 50 will be ok without whacking a zoom on? I know it's cheap and everyone seems to have one, but do I really need to get one and give it a go - was looking at secondhand 1.4s but I just don't have 150 quid to spend on a prime lens!

Re: Cheapest nifty fifty - and will I use it

Have a nosey at this Guy's stuff - have seen a fair few recomendations on here about him and have a Nifty fifty on the way as we speak - deal done at £50, think postage is about £10 - worth emailing him to chat to him as well.

Re: Cheapest nifty fifty - and will I use it

You may (initially) find yourself missing the absence of Wide angle/ Zoom framing you are used to if you get a 50mm Prime ( whether F1.8 or 1.4).

The 1.4 really is a better ( albeit costlier ) lens but I wouldn't get it for starters unless you've given the 1.8 a "workout" and then found yourself wanting a little bit more.

However I find that even when the EF-S 17-85 mm IS is used at 50mm with its IS and arguably better optics , it is still possible to get sharper brighter images with the "nifty fifty".

Even if you don't use it often, whenever you do, You'll soon find the money spent on it money well spent
