Stroke of Luck At Jessops :-)

Been hunting around for a good deal on the D80 kit with the 18 - 135mm lens for a wee while. Best I had seen it was Jesopps online with voucher at £713. Decided to pop in to my local Jessops to check out their price and found it displayed for sale at £699

Asked the girl at the counter what their price was for the kit as I was a bit suspicious, she said £763. I pointed out that it was displayed for £699 and showed her. Apparently it was sitting on the wrong shelf but the description was a D80 with kit lens (I assume it was meant to be the smaller kit lens).

To her credit she straightaway said that as it was displayed at this I was welcome to buy it for that price before she corrected the mistake...

So I'm now the proud new owner of a D80 with 135mm lens hehe.

You lucky lucky lucky thing.

I just got my D80 but only with the 18-70m lens and thought that getting it at £675 was a good price.

I picked mine up today, from Jessops shop using the online http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/ if you use the voucher this way, print and take it to the shop, don't be put off, if you have to put it to the manager.
I had a problem in my Norwich branch, but moved onto Bury St Edmunds where they honored the price, I came away with the very last one in the shop A Nikon D80 + 18-135, at £713. so far I am blown away with image quality.

Re: Stroke of Luck At Jessops :-)

I had some luck myself....went to get my D5 with 24-105 yesterday. Threw in a Canon bag with a £60 ticket on it and then when I got home discovered it still had the 2GB CF card in it as it was the demo one......nice work!

Re: Stroke of Luck At Jessops :-)

Thanks for the comments. I've also just got the battery pack along with two 3rd party batteries delivered for £98. It came from Hong Kong right enough but thought at that price it was worth the risk.

It certainly makes the camera chunky with it added

Re: Stroke of Luck At Jessops :-)

I had my own bit of luck today at Jessops

I bought a a Nikon Coolpix S9 for my girlfriends stocking yesterday, £189 reduced to £169 with pricematch - when I got it home realised that this model doesn't have the WiFi feature, so thought I'd take it back and go for the more expensive S6 model. This was marked at £249 in the shop, explained that I had the S9 pricematched yesterday and wondered if they could do the same... The manager said no problem, looked it up on the web - his face was a picture when he saw this model was at £162 on Amazon. So that was a full £87 discount!

I swear he went white as he handed over the higher spec model with my £7 refund

Ouch

Are Jessops trying to build up a "loyal" customer base out of all these loss-leaders? Perhaps trying to get people to think of going to Jessops first, irrespective of the price in the future? Hmm...

I don't honestly think Jessops have " loss leaders " they are just not making such a huge profit on price matched goods.
