Need camera help - S5600

Hi im getting my dad a camera for christmas. I used to have a cannon ixus compact, but droped it and it broke, and dads been after a camera for a while always quoting "4mp is the quality for a photo on A4 paper".
So iv started looking for a camera. First one that i come across was the FUJI S9600, it sounded great, but then i found a FUJI S5600 which is the lower model but 1/2 the price.
But im curious to why i should buy a FuJI S5600 over a compact what has 5mp. Can somebody give me some advice as i dont know muhc about camera's.
He will be using it for things like family days out, my football matches etc.
Cheers

Re: Need camera help - S5600

The 5600 will be soooooo much better than a point and shoot if he knows how to use it - just the sheer ability to change photo mode without having to use the lcd and navigate through menus is worth it alone.
The 9600 and some of the panny jobs are much better than the 5600, but they are of course more expensive.....
Do fuji still do a 6mp version of a similar camera?

Re: Need camera help - S5600

If he doesn't need the 10x optical zoom, I'd buy him the Fuji F30 which is better than the S5600 IMO.

Re: Need camera help - S5600

Does depend if your dad wants a small compact camera that can fit inside his pocket, or one that "looks" like a SLR.

The 5600 is a very very good camera IMO and for the price you can get it very good value, however as it looks like a SLR, it will not fit inside the pocket.

Otherwise as ScottBT has suggested the F30 will be great.
