Thanks: Gave 1, Got 1 | New Camera wanted £250 max
Hi, I am wanting to upgrade my Canon powershot a80 digital camera, I do like canon cameras a lot so have been looking at 2 that have caight my eye, they are the powershop a640 and the ixus 900, both are 10 million pixel camera but which one is the best?? I know that the ixus range tend to be smaller but end og the day I like results more than size, another one that has caught my eye was IXUS 850, please give me some advice
Regards Keith

what size photo could I print using a 7.1 MP camera, I do like this camera, but is it better than the powershot a640?? I dont need total manual controls just mainly point and shoot, I can not find any reviews on the ixus 850 but thank for that.

It looks like I am going for a canon ixus, but its between the Ixus 850 and the ixus 900 seem to be the best compacts available even thought the cost the most!, now the price of both cameras is not an issue so whats your verdict! should I go with the 850 or the 900????

S3IS is a great camera but not really a compact. I have one myself but favour a Fuji F30 over the S3 most of the time. The Fuji is certainly worth a look and fits into the price bracket of the OP.

Incredible battery life and outstanding in low light conditions.

The ixus 900 has an expensive titanium body but the ixus 800 is a better camera with 4x zoom and image stabilisation. The 850 has wide angle lens but no viewfinder.

Read that the 850 is a much better camera - better quality video, wider lens etc etc.
Cameras2u.com do it for £250. Go down to your local Jessops and get them to price match it.
Before you do all that - read the following review.... http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/ca...ew/index.shtml
That's the 850 ixus

and... http://reviews.digitaltrends.com/rev...main18323.html
"Takes good—not great—photos"
Note that it only takes video at 640 x 480 pixels at 25 frames per second rather than 30 fps. That would put me off as I use the Ixus 850 for video quite a lot. The quality of the video on the 850 is very high - especially for web blogging and you can record half an hour of video in one go on a 4gb card.
Seems more expensive also - £329 compared to getting an 850 at £250 from cameras2u.com
