RAW Image Thumbnail & Viewer for WinXP

CLICKY
Sorry if I missed this but this download from Microsoft lets you view Thumbnails of RAW files in Windows Explorer - Supports Nikon NEF (works on my D200 files) & Canon RAW formats (although I heard it doesn't work with the new 400D RAW files?)
Handy little utility - Paul

Yes, it is handly, and should encourage more people just to shoot in RAW. There really shouldn't be much reason to shoot in both RAW and JPEG now.

Re: RAW Image Thumbnail & Viewer for WinXP

I installed this a couple of months ago, and it is very, very handy. Integration into the XP Explorer makes it much easier to find pictures without having to fire up other software.

Cheers,
Liam

Re: RAW Image Thumbnail & Viewer for WinXP

Bump

See my sig for the new toy. The powertoy from Microsoft for XP is way out of date... anything that supports the newer Canon version for XP? Actually are these new Vista software compatible with XP?

I would prefer explorer... but can compromise and download software so long as it does the job. Don't need anything for much else... am playing with Lightroom trial and thinking about the £80 student price...

Thansk

Re: RAW Image Thumbnail & Viewer for WinXP

Nobody owns a new-ish Canon and use XP?

Re: RAW Image Thumbnail & Viewer for WinXP

Have you tried on the Canon website?
MS has dropped support for RAW in Vista and I found what I needed on the Canon website, after asking around.

Re: RAW Image Thumbnail & Viewer for WinXP

Thanks for raising the point

To clarify, all Canon have on their site is an update for Zoombrowser to support the G9... but the discs that came with the G9 has that anyway. Unless I am mistaken, its the same as Lightroom, but when converting to Jpeg does the same job as what the G9 would do?

Canon site also has download to view Raw on Vista... but nothing for XP

Still looking heh

Re: RAW Image Thumbnail & Viewer for WinXP

It is a little step extra but I browse my RAW files in DPP
Very handy and fast with RAW tweaking and conversion too

Yes
It is freely downloadable though ( at least its update) but I don't think it reads non Canon RAW formats
RAW Image Task is a kind of DPP plug in into Zoom browser which cames with all Canon cameras
Saying that Lightroom can equaly act as a browser if you give it 2-3 minutes to load up

Re: RAW Image Thumbnail & Viewer for WinXP

Well I have disciplined myself in these early days and turned off 'review' on the G9 But I thought if I could view the canon raw files in explorer, I could at least bin ones that are obviously beyond saving straight away. Suppose will just have to get over myself and use lightroom. Very nice it is too in my tentative steps

I just wish there was something like PicLens which I use on firefox for explorer (a simply stunning add-on - you can easily lose hours browsing photos with this online)

Photo mods: if you like, feel free to make a new thread. I see PicLens hasn't been mentioned in this section before

Re: RAW Image Thumbnail & Viewer for WinXP

I use Cam2PC as my image browser. It handles RAW files from my Nikon D50 no problem in XP. Not sure if it supports newer RAW files, but it's free so it's worth a try.
