Sandisk Ultra III CF card

What with the size of the 5D images when shooting in raw I'm in need of a new CFII card. I currently have 3 1Gb and 1 2Gb cards. Am looking to get a SanDisk 4GB Compact Flash Card Extreme III.

Found one for £90, good price? Recommended card?

Don't like having one large card rather than several little ones [no single point of failure] but need more storage

Thoughts anyone?

I got a couple of 2GB Ultra II cards for my 5D. I reckon that 106 RAW images are going to keep C1 busy processing without doubling the number

I prefer to use 2GB cards because of the ole 'don't put all your eggs in one basket' thing. You can get the 2GB extreme III for £45.65 from amazon. Thats only a little over a quid more for 2 compared to the 4GB card.

Im sure the 4GB cards have a pretty much similar failure rate than the 2GB ones but Id rather loose 2GB of data than 4GB.

EDIT: If you want either card even cheaper (and now) you could always take a print off down your local Jessops. You'll get 110% of the difference. IIRC the 2GB card is £119.99 so that would make it a bargain price of £38.22 and the 4GB is £179.99 so that would be £85.34 (assuming you use mymemory for the PM which is £93.94 inc P&P)

Cheers, was thinking that and they are the same speed. Might just go for 2 of them and ditch the slower cards

Does anyone have any experience of buying these on Ebay. I've seen some 2GB Sandisk II for £23 +PP on Ebay from UK (not far east). Are these genuine ? has anone bought from these dealers ?

TBH there are so many fakes about at the moment (especially on ebay) that if the price is a fair amount lower than even the cheapest online retailer then its probably too good to be true. Just because it will be posted from the UK doesnt nesseceraly mean that it is anymore real than ones from somewhere like HK. Truth is they probably bought them in bulk from there anyway. Im sure there are good honest folk on ebay selling genuine cards at decent prices but personally I wouldnt take the risk.

You've obviosly choosen that particular card over other brands for its perforamnce and reliability, if these things are important then stump up the bit extra cash for the peace of mind. If not then just get another 'standard' (but branded) card for cheaper.

5D RAW files are between 8-13mb depending on the data captured. I've never had a CF card fail and I think we're at the point where 2GB isn't enough to avoid a fair amount of card swapping on a long shoot. I'd go with 4GB cards now, and stick with a decent brand like Sandisk, Lexar et al.

The Extreme III cards are very good - that's about the right price now the IV's have been launched. Don't buy one from eBay though - they're almost always fake. Use a decent, established retailer.

i've just bought a Sandisk extreme III 4Gb from jessops.
thier price is £199 but they price matched amazon's £89 and then discoutned 10% of the difference, so i paid £78 !

hope this helps some other people.

what about a photo storage device, i got a 30 gig flashtrax from ebay for £130 a few months ago, it stores jpeg raw and various others as well as video and mp3 files, it has a 3.5in screen, since i bought mine i have seen them on there for less than £100, it's great for storing photo files, they range from 20 gig to about 80 gig.

I have an 8.9" Fuji sub notebook so could use that for lengthier shoots, am more in need of the instant storage out in the field offered by bigger cards as well as quicker speed.

Might head into Jessops on Saturday to get them to price match
