Question Please help me write my Christmas list.....

Good evening all,

I've been asked to write my christmas list time and time again, so I suppose I better get it sorted, but I could use some help please

My Camera Kit consists of the following items at the moment:-
  • Canon 400D DSLR Camera
  • Canon 50mm f1.8 Lens
  • Canon 60mm f2.8 Macro Lens
  • Tamron 17-50 f2.8 Lens
  • Small Camera Bag (FULL!!!)

Next year i'm going to be looking at purchasing the following items (or similar) :-
  • 70-200mm Lens
  • 10-20mm Lens
  • 40gig+ Storage Device

Now what I was thinking for my Christmas list was . . .
  1. A Crumpler bag that would take all of the above equipment, what one would be suitable for this??

  2. Also I need a decent tripod, I would like one that goes to around the 6ft mark in height, be versitile in terms of positioning the camera, but isn't going to kill you to carry around??

  3. And finally some filter based system, the Cokin system sounds good, but has anyone got any experience with this and what would you recommend - polarisers, ND filters etc...??

Many thanks for your help on this matter, santa will hopefully not forget me because my list is late

Cheers,

Giz

Re: Please help me write my Christmas list.....

You've got a lot under 60mm there. I'm not convinced the 60mm macro is the best option and would go for the 100mm f2.8 USM instead - it'll also make a better portrait lens.

I already own the 60mm Macro, love the lens to bits

I know all my stuff is on the short side at the moment, but I want a decent zoom but that'll have to wait for next year.

You never see santa he comes when your sleeping

I won't be getting all this, but will probably end up as joint presents from a few people, at least this way i'll use the pressie rather than some over-sized underwear in the draw

I'm thinking the crumpler bag would be around the £80 mark, the tripod the £100 mark and i'm not sure about the Cokin system.

Cheers for the replies, anymore suggestions??

Re: Please help me write my Christmas list.....

How about a Gorillapod as an affordable partner to a real tripod?

If you want to play around with filters, get a selection for your 50mm - it's a 58mm thread (IIRC - please check before buying!) so the individual filters aren't as expensive as the more standard 77mm filter size that a lot of other Canon lenses use.
I'd get some from the Hoya Pro1 DMC range - a UV filter, a circular polarising filter, and maybe a neutral density. You can then find out how useful they are in different circumstances, and whether you then want to spend £150+ on a circular polariser for a larger lens
This is how I went about it (I haven't got an ND filter yet, though), and have decided that the polariser is great - and I want more of them for the rest of my lenses

Re: Please help me write my Christmas list.....

get your crumpler bag from canada or the states, all the models over here are out of date and if you looking for backpacks i LOVE my "whickey and cox" as the whole camera section can be removed like a little pod, for when you need to use the bag for something else. Check it out, should cost around 140 including shipping
