Thanks: Gave 3, Got 4 | What wins - IXUS 850 or IXUS 900?
This is all about what camera wins outright? There have been some saying that with the 850 having the IS, it beats the 900 hands down, but then the 900 has 3 MP higher clarity.
I want everyones views on this, seeing as there are no full reviews of either camera or a camera comparison.
Also whats strange is that both of them are near enough the same price.
Lets see who wins |

I'm guessing that no-one is commenting because no-one has one yet. The stats are available on dpreview for everyone to see, but other than that, nothing.
Taking a wild guess, I'd say the IS will be more useful than the extra 3MP.
Cheers,
Liam

I am in split minds with this, as I know that they are both available online, and im due to be ordering one tomorrow now that I have been paid, but I cannot afford both unfortunatly. It sounds like if you got shaky hands or moving the camera around, get an IXUS 850, but if you got dead still hands, get an IXUS 900.
Is that a good rational of thinking?

I decided to go for the IXUS 900 in the end with it being the top model and not needing a wide-angle lens either.
It is really crystal clear photos and and its really fast to respond to turning it on & off. Have yet to try the more advanced features & video, but whatever it takes comes out perfect, well worth buying IMO.

i will mostly be taking alot of tennis photos, so i might have to use the zoom abit, which would you recommend, and will either give me good results at taking tennis photos?

This will probably not help but I bought the 900 for my wife and she is really happy with the results. The main reason for choosing this camera was as we are keen scuba divers its ability to record video at 1024 x 768 so its ideal for video shorts of various marine creatures.

The gadget show on Ch5 recently reviewed the 900 alongside other makes, and the 900 came out worst.
They claimed it did not live up to the "Ixus" name, and was more about looks (with the Ti body) rather than quality.
If you are not planning on printing anything bigger than A4 size, I would stick with the 850 with the IS. Heres a link to the shows review

What did you go for in the end, the 900 or the 850?
I'm in the same boat as you and wondering which one to buy.

I've just changed from the Ixus 800 IS to the Fuji F31fd. Discussed here Canon SD700 IS or LUMIX DMC-LX2K? Help... with some quick snaps.
This was the camera that won the gadget show test, and is genuinely a better camera all round than the Ixus |
