More excellent shots Pete.

Are these ones cropped at all? I can't tell

Thanks. A couple of crops but I tend to get the shots with the prime which makes a massive difference to framing

Shot with a monopod today but depends on location etc.

Re: FA Cup. 14/10/2006

Pete,
A quick question if I may. I take it you have a pass to get these. I love taking these. I have tried to take them from the stands with my big lense (in sig.) but not really the best spot, get funny looks and in south London it might get "lost" for a better word!
I have to go around on Sunday mornings to local ones to get my best work. I would love to pratice. Do you just turn up to the games with you kit and ask at the media centre or do you have a letter from local rag. etc.
I am happy to not even get paid for them to start of with. I would just be more that happy to see one (I wish!!!) in print.
Thanks
J

I covered these off spec, ergo I was asked to attend the game by the paper I am shooting for. As such accreditation was collected on the day. A high vis media vest lives in my bag now too.

My advice to you would be start putting together some work for your local rags/newspapers and sub it 'on spec' asking them if they are interested in having local stuff covered as it is can stimulate sales, assuming that you are happy with the quality of your work. Please post some for us to share?

In Bristol our league teams (City and Rovers) do not get the attendance that they want as people all over Bristol prefer to play on a sat and we have the biggest non league infrastructure anywhere in Europe. It is a footy mad city that produces two quality local papers solely for sport.

So, your idea of covering local soccer can help, especially at park level.

Finally, with the winter pending, a 2.8F lens seems like a must due to the crappy weather. I shot manually today and had to open it up to ISO 1000 ish to retain a decent shutter speed of 1600 - 2000 for this action so the 5.6 @ 400mm would perhaps be a little slow, though sunny mornings may be OK.

HTH.

Pete.

Niced once again BP. I find it interesting that you have a lens capable of F2.8 and your camera shutter speeds from 1/1000+, ISO's from 800+ and still get crisp images from your 30D.
