Rally Photography

I'm planning to go to the Colin McRae Forest Stages Rally on the 30th, but am struggling to find any information of the stage maps to plan out my pictures in advance.

I had a similar problems with the Aberdeen Granite City Rally a few months back, ended up finding the stages but with difficulty and no foward planning.

Does anyone here requently go to these events? if so, how do you get the details to plan your photos and get a good spot in advance. I've googled the stages (Craigvinean, Funab, Errochty and Drummond Hill) But without more information it'll be down to guesswork again, dodging road closures etc.

Re: Rally Photography

Well, when we went to the Malcolm Wilson rally we just spoke to the track wardens or whatever they're called - they tend to have maps and can generally advise on the interesting bits. One note though ... if you are on the outside of a relatively fast corner, be prepared to shield your kit, face etc from flying stones thrown up by the cars - I remember taking my new £800 zoom lens with me and being concerned about the conker sized stones that pinged off the hood!
