Automatic lens cover won't open! Help please.

My fantastic Fuji Finepix has decided to stop taking pictures by refusing to open the lens cover. It's not the batteries, didn't drop it, was working perfectly the day before. Is it a throw- in- bin or shall I look inside to see if there's an obstruction? It's out of guarantee now, and I live in another country from where it was purchased. Any replies gratefully received.

Can you open it by hand, a lot of them will slide if you use your fingers, and it may free it off.

I hate to say it but I think it's a throw away job One of mine did the same thing and it was uneconomical to repair

could be a catch thats worn away, you could open the badboy up and have a look. Which model is it? is there a round metal door that slides away under the body? you could just open it up and remove it and be careful from now on. wouldnt say it was a throwaway job

Re: Automatic lens cover won't open! Help please.

The same happened a year or so ago to my old finepix (before upgrading to dslr) Luckily my brother worked in a camera shop at the time and it was able to be repaired. It was something to do with the circuit board, unfortunatley i can't remember the cost now, but it was certainly worth getting repaired rather than forking out for a new one.
