Lens recommendation for Olympus E-300

Can anyone recommend an everyday lens for the Olymous E-300. Something that covers say 35-280mm or near. Budget upto £300-£400.

Used to own a Canon DSLR so I am not sure of the Olympus lens range.

Regards
Martin

Ahoy there!

I have an Oly E500 2 lens kit (40-150mm and 14-45mm). I can't recommend any others per-say as I do not own them, but Sigma do a range of telephoto zoom lenses that ought to be compatible with the 4/3 system. Both the kit lenses are fine for everyday use.

I would lso suggest you go to the DPReview Oly SLR forum and ask in there as I'm sure you'll get a much more qualified answer to your question.

Remember, the digital equivalent is double the standard 35mm SLR, so 40-150mm is 80-300mm (35mm SLR equivalent).

I don't know if the above is of any use, but it may be a start!

Alternatively, go to eBay and do a search. I did, and the Worldwide option shows a whole array of lenses on offer.

Good luck with your search.

Cheers Pirate, I'll give dpreview a try.

By the way, what is the 40-150 like? Is it sharp, soft, quiet, noisey? Have you had any problems with it? Would you recommend it as an everyday lens?

Cheers mate

Ahoy Martin!

Now there's a question! It is sold as part of the two lens kit (available separately). Personally, I find it an exceptionally good lens (as I'm sure others in the DPReview forum will concur). It is essentially (IMHO) and extension of the 14-45mm lens, and gives clear, sharp results.

It would be a worthy addition to your lens 'armoury'. The 14-45mm is a general all round lens with a wider angle. The 40-150mm is a longer lens, so the combination of the two ought to give you much better options in terms of both longer and wider shots.

The motor and auto focus is great. Clearly there are other lens options available, but as a standard entry lenses, they are cost effetive. If you are into macro, that is another issue, and another lens or lens adaptor.

The 40-150mm is a weighty piece of kit. If you are looking for a super-zoom, then the cost will be extortionate. If you are just looking for a combo for general use and a little more 'up close and personal' shooting, then then 40-150mm and the 14-45mm will probably meet your needs OK.

40-150 is a great lens. Only down side it it's close focusing, minimum focusing distance is 1.5metres. Otherwise it is very good.

rrp is about £200 but it can be had for £130 - see here http://www.abc-digital-cameras.co.uk...b43706ede11a56

At that price it is a real bargain.
