Bristol docks railway yard...pictures! (56k Warning)
Took my camera out today. Went to Bristols old docks where there are abandoned railway lines. The first pic sums up the irony of the redundant spot. Used my new Canon 50mm F1.8 lens and the kit lens in aperature mode.
Starting to realise that photography is actually pretty hard and I am not up to much at it, but was nice being out on a crisp day, rather than sitting at home watching sky sports all afternoon. Funny too as there were a couple of other chaps out with there cameras doing exactly the same. Also starting to work out that people dont half stare at you, probably thinking 'what on earth is he taking a picture of ?'
So, some images have had a grain effect applied to make them look more industrial I hope. Resized @ 800 x 600 for host/forums.
Feedback welcome as always.
Thanks for looking,
Pete.

Pete
You've a pretty damn good eye on you regards seeing a picture, keep up the good work mate
Don't know how dangerous the track shots were or how close you could get (pretty close judging) but try to get even lower using the 18mm side of your kit lens for some nice perspective
Well done

No danger here as rail line been disused for nigh on 100 years. Thanks for the tip on the 18mm.
Pete.

Some really nice pictures there Pete
I like 5, 10 and 18 particularly though, nice composition on all of those shots and the focus on 18 is really nice

Thanks. I really appreciate the comment. I am already saving for a better main lens as the kit canon lens does seem a little lifeless to be honest.
What I am finding intersting is how we all shot pictures and the differing styles we use. I can already see my style developing with lots of grain, noise and muted palette - dont know why, I just like that kind of pic! Not to say I wont do colour

Thats not true Pete. As the others have said there are some really good shots there. I especially love 1, 5, 8 & 10. You're putting me to shame - I haven't touched my cam at all today so must take some shots tomorrow...

Firsst part I agree with, second comment is rubbish and the third is all part of it in my opinion.
There are some good shots in that batch Pete, and in those you posted in the photo sharing thread, that you could easily have printed and framed, even made into a themed collage and then printed. Thats what I will be aiming to do with some of my better shots, and if they are good enough for you in that instance then thats all that counts.

Thanks. What I think I mean is that there is so much to learn and occasionally today when using manual mode they came our dark or over exposed. So tempted to go back into auto mode but I didnt (I think) I am really enjoying it however!
