Fuji F10 - pics not sharp enough, help!

Hi

I bought a Fuji F10 based on some great reviews (having owned a cheap Fuji for years that has given great service).

However, I am not into photography as such and just want a point and shoot camera. The F10 in auto mode just doesn't seem to take sharp pics - I have played with the settings and although slightly better not what I'm after.

Has anyone experienced similar or got any suggestions?

The F10 does capture the detail but it doesn't sharpen overly in the camera as some of the other small P&S's do. This means that to get best results from it, some post processing sharpening might be needed in Photoshop/Elements/iPhoto/Picasa etc.

Another thing that might help is using Spot focus rather than average which I think might be the default. Nothing to do with focus but something that might help the perception of it, is to use the 'Chrome' setting. When showing some unpp'd pics from my F10, my mother, not a photography geek (not that I am either) felt they looked better.

The pics look a little grainy - according to the review I read is normal for the camera.

I have compared it with my dad's canon tonight and it seems to perform as well.

I also took some pics in the house tonight in low light conditions using the natural light mode and the results were great.

I'll stick with it.
