Canon Ixus 55 - where to buy?

I'm looking to replace my Olympus c2040z with a slimmer and sexier model, purchased a Canon A400 for my 11 year old last year and am really impressed with the quality of the images and the ease of use. This has steered me towards the Ixus 55, a great camera judging from the reviews and the quality feedback on the forums. The question I have is where is the best place to buy from? I puchased the A400 through 7dayshop but they appear to be dropping out of cameras judging by their poor range on the site at the moment.

Can anyone recommend a good and reliable site that offers good value for money? I know that cheapest is not always best but I have seen sites through Kelkoo starting at £217 (PC World - poor customer service) through to £350 (scared me so much I can't remember who it was!). I would guess around the £240 mark would be an acceptable price to pay.

If anyone has suggestions on an alternative camera (I like the Sony DSC T7 but bit pricey) of similar performance I'd appreciate their comments!

Absolutely superb camera - delighted with it. Very good picture quality, excellent battery life and very good software.

Only one very slight niggle - it doesn't show remaining battery life until it's running low. Battery life is excellent (several hundred shots) so it hasn't really been a problem and spare batteries are cheap.

One piece of advice. The camera is so small that I've nearly dropped it several times. Make sure you use the supplied wrist strap. It's saved mine a few times.

I've been considering the Ixus 55 for a while now, and the best price I found was from Amazon too.

I'm about to buy one as well.

Are there any other ultra compacts I should consider (don't mind paying more if pic quality will be better) ?

As Gemz1982 has put it, the Ixus 70 is a very good camera too. You might want to take a look that or take a look at the Sony DCS T7, a bit more expensive but an incredible camera for its size (my brother has one).

I've considered the Sony, but this quote from steves digicams website "Capturing a well-exposed flash image of even a moderately-sized room is beyond the T7's capability" kinda puts me off.

Feedback about the Ixus 700/750 is that it captures better pics than the Ixus 55, but I just like the feel of the 55 more than the 750

If I can find a camera that captures images as well as the Ixus 750, but which feels/looks (subjective, I know) as good as the Ixus 55 I'd be happy.

Well, I got mine, ordered Monday, delivered Thursday a cracking service and a cracking camera . Initial shots are excellent beats the pants off my Olympus and looks so sexy in comparison!!!

With either currys or comet offering the ixus 50 with a photo printer for £250, is the ixus 55 worth the price premium over the ixus 50? The only difference is the screen size right? I probably wouldn't use a photo printer anyway, its cheaper and better to get photos printed in a store anyway, but the ixus 50 should be avaliable for a good bit less than the ixus 55.
