Mini DV Tape Player - does one exist?

Help. Is anyone out there aware of a stand alone Mini DV tape player which can be used to down load digital video into my PC?

For the cost of a DV VCR you would IMO be better off just getting a cheap DV camcorder to load the footage onto the PC. After all it doesn't matter about cheap, poor lens as that wont be used. The digital output should not be affected by the quality of the camcorder as transfer via firewire gives a 100% quality copy of what is on the tape.

i could'ent agree more, this is a much better option and mega bucks cheaper, than paying £700 + for a mini vcr.

...plus you get a backup camcorder. I broke the lcd screen on a nephews camcorder and had to give him a new one as replacement. his (old ) one is now consigned to permanently transferring minidv to pc instead of simply going to waste. You could also use it as an analog to dv converter if you have analogue in on one end and dv from camcorder to computer via firewire on the other
