What Camera!!

Hi,

I'm after some advice on a digital camera. My Ol' Kodak is letting me down with poor quality pics, and very disappointing "in the dark" photos compared to other modern day cameras.

I know as much about cameras as I do flying the space shuttle!!! All I want to be able is "point and click"!!

I get married this Saturday, and would like to use some of the wedding money on a digital camera. I was thinking of a budget of up to £400. I have asked my wedding photographer for advice, and he has pointed at Fugi. I have ha a look on the web, and the F10 caught my eye. Also, F455, Z1, F810. Then Cannon Ixus 700, Nikon 7900, and Sony T7.

Storage (1Gb), and battery life is an important consideration.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Really depends on what you want. Do you want something that will fit in your pocket? Do want something with a good mix of manual and auto controls. For me the best compact out there is the canon S70. Has a good mix of novice and advanced features that's hard to beat

£400 will get you a Panasonic DMC-FZ20 which will do everything you want.

Looking at the options he's given above, i think that might be a bit big for him. Which is the only reason i've not spoke of it. We need more info really

Just bought an Panasonic FZ5 which is rated as good as the FZ20 but smaller and just paid £295 from jessops.

The fuji s5500 is about £200. Its very user friendly. Has a 10X Zoom and quality high resolution Movie and Sound. You will need larger XD card than supplied, so look for the bundle packages. It will take about 200 shots withone charge.

However, I agree with seany, this wont do if you want a pocket sise camera. also, no one will give me a clue if the new 1mb XD works with it?? see my thread.

Thankyou for all suggestions. I wanted something "small....ish". Just a point and click, basicallly auto "everything"! Maybe, with features that over time I could use and grow with.

From what I've mentioned, do you think the S70 is the way for me to go?

I do mate, it has all the auto options you need and some good manual options for you to grow in to. It's also wider at 28mm then most other compacts.

But the S80 will be out soon

So maybe look for a really good price on an S70 or wait for the S80 ( not easy if wedding is on saturday! ) , that has a bigger screen, is smaller and more pixels etc

One thing I don't understand is Seany mentioned wider at 28mm, what does this mean? Any ideas?

The Canon A95 is a great 5 megapixel point and shoot today, More adventurous photography tommorow camera. Shop around £199

There is also the s70 for the same cost in the same retailer . ( Body only!!!)They both take sharp colourful photographs check dpreview.com for reviews and photo

Wider at 28mm refers to the wide angle view the lens is capable of at that focal length. simply put you will get more in your frame at the same distance without using a wider angle and risk introducing the picture distorsions that occur at the extremes of focal length ( fish eye/ barrell etc) to objects nearer the edges of the lens

I never actually knew an S80 was due out, does mean that you'll get the 70 cheaper of course.


Every review of the S70 S60 ect gives prais the fact that it's 28mm. Better to have it then not basically
