Reading another thread, Seany's comment about 'lenses are forever' prompted me to think of the future.........

Lenses will be more like the human eye, able to adapt to widely different light levels and still capture perfect, sharply detailed, images. So ISO speed ratings will not be needed.

There might even be some non-wired or connected means of saving the images your eye sees, with no loss of quality, thereby eliminating the need for a camera or other recording device with a lens.

All you would need is a highly portable small device with a memory chip to store the visual images you desire to keep. These saved images could be transferred instantaneously to friends and others via satellite transmission. Walls in homes and offices would be coated with a sensitive material capable of receiving and retaining any type of electronic images.

I wonder when....

But don't we want to get the flying car issues worked out before moving on to photography...

Thinking about this seriously, its a complete no go unfortunately.

The human eye only has nice, clear, full resolution and colour perception vision in a very small circle right in the middle of our vision, where we are "looking at". This is about 5% of the total field of view.

The rest of the human eyes FOV is poor resolution, enhanced to detect movement at the sacrifice of colour, resolution, etc.

We never realise this because we can only ever see directly through this small "high def" circle, look at the right of your computer screen and try to concentrate on the icons on the left hand side out the side of your eye and read their writing - impossible (for me anyway, I can't even tell what icons they are).

If you tapped into the optic nerve and recorded the image you'd get a poor, fuzzy image with a small circle in the middle of it that looked very good

Think of the advantages - thieves wouldn't be able to nick them, image stabilisation would just mean you stop the forklifts engine, panning shots would be a problem though, how fast is the forklift truck?
