Screen Colour Issues in Photoshop

I've just started with digital imaging having purchased a Fuji S7000 and am having a few problems with photoshop. When I download images to the computer (in both RAW & JPG format) they appear ok in the Windows viewer.

The problems occur when I open up the images in photoshop as they invariably open up very dark, especially the RAW files. I have tried to optimise the screen but it doesn't seem to have had any effect.

Can anyone opoint me in the right direction for assistance please.

make sure that the photoshop colour profile is correct

Sorted thanks - I didn't realise there were different profiles available within the programme. I had tried calibrating the monitor without success when installing the prog.

Anyway it's now sorted with one of the supplied profiles
