choosing a camera

Hi,

I am looking for a camera and would appreciate some advice. I am a newbie to this area but have come up with the following. I am looking for a fairly small digital camera with at least 5mp with more than the standard 3x optical zoom. Main subjects will be my kids and general family/holiday shots. One of the key areas will be a lack of delay from pressing button and taking the photo (kids move fast).

Some of the cameras that i have come up with so far are the casio ex-p600, pentax optio sv and fuji finepix f810.

As stated above any help would be appreciated as i am going into info overload frm reading websites

thanks in advance

Hi

first question: what's your budget?

There's so many cameras out there that this may narrow it down some.

The shutter lag (delay) is inevitable with compact digitals, unfortunately.

Panasonic FZ-20 is a good choice for a "compact". It has a great 12 times Leica lens, 5MP and takes great photos. Minimal shutter lag as well. It's not pocket size though

Check the flash sync speed too, a lot are only 1/30 at full wide angle, mine included, and it makes it hard to get a good picture. A lot of people are mistaking this for poor auto focusing ( the sony w1 springs to mind).
