Just got my Nikon D5000

After trawling through dozens of reviews and plaguing the life out of the staff at my local Jessops & Jacobs Digital, I finally decided on the Nikon D5000 as my first D-SLR and wow, is it impressive but very complicated, hence my purchase of the 'Nikon D5000 for Dummies': the manual is not easy reading!

Re: Just got my Nikon D5000

The D5000 looks like a great camera so congratulations. I'm not the expert that others are on the forum but your photo seems well exposed - I wonder if it would have been good to try pre-focusing on the nearest stone and then taking the shot?

This is *exactly* the kind of guidance I need from better photographers than me [which is pretty much everyone!] so thanks for the tip.

It is a stunning camera but will take me a time to get to grips with all it can do: bought the Dummies guide & intend to join a local photo club too.

Re: Just got my Nikon D5000

I'm a lot more happy-snapper than proper photographer but I do enjoy taking a good photo (and of course deciding what gear to buy ). Practically everyone, including myself, will throroughly recommend the book "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson for friendly advice with lots of helpful pictures.

Re: Just got my Nikon D5000

congrats on a good purchase, looks like i missed out on the cashback by a few weeks! I'm very pleased with mine, I find the image quality much better than my old olympus SLR, especially in low light. It wont take you long to find your way around it and be taking some truly great photo's.
